OUR VISION

Hidden Treasures

In the year 1867, a farmer in South Africa found the first African diamond. He saw neighbors’ children playing with a glittery stone. He bought the stone from them hoping it would be worth something. So he gave it to a merchant with the mission to find out the stone’s worth. The merchant first came to a city called Hopetown, but no one there was willing to pay anything for the stone. In the next city, the merchant showed the stone to a superintendent. This man, though not educated in the matter, assumed the stone may be a diamond, so they went on to get the opinion of Dr. Atherstone in Grahamstown, the most well-known mineralogist in South Africa. As it turned out, it truly was a diamond the farmer had found.

At Tumaini Ministries, we believe that many children and young people are just like this stone: they possess great value, many gifts, and talents—yet often no one recognizes their potential. Sometimes they don’t even realize themselves what they are capable of.

That is why we are committed to creating a place where these hidden treasures can be discovered and nurtured.

On our property in Kenya, we have already built a daycare center and a school so that children from the surrounding area can receive an education, safety, and a sense of purpose close to their families. But the need is great, and many more children are still waiting for an opportunity.

Our next step is to build another school building so that even more children can learn, grow, and shape their future.

In the long term, we want to develop this place into a christian family center—a place that not only provides education for children but also supports families, strengthens community, and brings hope to the region. A place where people are guided, discover their abilities, and can positively transform their lives and their surroundings.

Our vision is for children, youth, and families to recognize their worth, discover their God-given gifts, and learn to use them—for their own lives and as a blessing to their community.

It is our vision that young people may know their worth, as well as their gifts and talents, and that they would know how they can use these to shape their own life and make a positive impact in their community.
